I think I forgot that I have a blog

I can’t really think of any other reason why I haven’t been blogging…. I just forgot about it.

We have a super-crummy ancient dishwasher and I finally got fed up with all the hard water streaks and I’ve been doing all the dishes by hand for a couple weeks or so. I’m kind of surprised at how little times it takes. I think I’ve underestimated how much time and water I need in order to get the dishes pre-washed enough to get clean in that crappy dishwasher. I find myself not minding doing them at all.

Beyond gross

Brian found this thing while he was out back clearing brush. I don’t know what it is, but I find it completely disgusting. It makes me shudder.

Furry Blurry

20120305-091043.jpg

Last week, we saw this guy running around our neighborhood; he seemed like he was just passing through and he knew where he was going, but when he came back the next day and the next, we knew he was lost. Brian got him into the yard so we could give him some water and see if he had tags. No tags, no collar and he was a matted, dirty mess. Since he loves George SOOO much, we let him in for the night. 5 days later, he’s still here. He’s pretty shy and skittish, sometimes he flinches if you surprise him. I have no idea where this is going, the last thing we needed is another dog, but I do feel sorry for him and he is very well behaved. Here we go again…

Week 7

One day late, but still done in 2 hours. We actually did some stuff this week, and I probably could have done two pages, but I want to keep it fun and easy.

Mercury

Harry had to make a model of the the planet Mercury for school and once we saw the newest photos of the planet, I knew I was down.

Here’s the inspiration shot from NASA’s messenger:

I know! Way cooler than all the old dingy drawings I remember wherein Mercury was either gray or reddish grey. After reading some tips on the good old web, we decided to go papier-mache. (the other option was carving; um, no thanks!) Here’s a tip; even in a very dry climate, papier-mache takes a LONG time to dry. I’m glad we didn’t blow it by waiting till Sunday because even after 24 hours, there were still damp spots that I had to blast with a heat gun. Here’s our unpainted orb:

After lots of coats of tan and blue and white and yellow to get the colors somewhat right, I glittered our Mercury. Probably not accurate, but it was a way to show how Mercury’s crust is silicate and despite its craters, very smooth looking. Here’s our finished model:

This project was actually a lot easier than I envisioned….should we move on to Venus? make a whole solar system?

Week 5

Week 5 was super quick and easy, though the upper right hand slot looks really bad. I was trying to fit some graphics from Ancestry on it and it just looks blech, but I’m rolling with it.

They got me

Before the holidays, Starbucks had some 12 days of Christmas deal and one of those days they had a special tumbler that came with a free brewed coffee every day in January. I loved the tumbler and thought that even if I only got coffee a couple times, it would make the $20 price tag worth it.

ummm, in reality, it didn’t work out so well. I took my tumbler into Starbucks on January 20-something, got whatever decaf that they had (only one to choose from) and it tasted AWFUL. Just horrible, like cigarette butts and dirt. I guess maybe I could have tried another location or maybe manned up and gone for the caffeine, but I didn’t.

I still like the tumbler and use it all the time at home, but I guess they got me.

2Reno Minibook

I finally had a good reason to use my Amy Tangerine daybook and I also used all the papers and embellishments from her line that I had been hoarding. This was way too fun to make; I enjoyed working on all the different size and shaped pages. (more than I thought!)

Project Life Week 4

I got my page photo’ed and cropped and realized that I have no dates on the page anywhere…so I guess I’ll add those on later. It’s still going easy; I like the feeling of getting all this stuff in an album, and I’ve still been making single pages too, so it hasn’t used up all my creative energy.
